Isabella Caroline Hamilton papers, 1824-1876.

This collection consists of family correspondence, marriage and birth certificates, Oaths of Amnesty and Allegiance, letters testamentary, powers of Attorney, deeds, and other documents. The letters contain family news, news of social life in Savannah, conditions in Savannah and the South in the post=Civil War years, information on their timber lands in Camden County, and travel in Europe. In these papers, the name Delarocheaulion has several variations: De La Rocheauleon, Delaroche and De La Roche.

William Brown Hodgson (1801-1871) was born in Georgetown, D.C., and spent several years in the near East as Dragoman and Consul. He mastered thirteen languages, although he never attended college. In 1842, he married Margaret Telfair and moved to Savannah where he spent the rest of his life. Hodgson joined the Georgia Historical Society and was named a curator in 1845. Mary Telfair (1791-1875) was the daughter of Edward Telfair. She was active in cultural and social affairs in Savannah, Georgia. As the last surviving child of Edward Telfair, she came into possession of most of the large fortune accumulated by him.
